2022 marks the 190th commemoration of the Benedict family in funeral service. Samuel Husted Benedict began making caskets in 1830. He opened the first funeral home in 1832 on 60 Carmine Street, in lower Manhattan. Later he moved the funeral home to 150 West 15th Street, NYC. His son, Charles A. Benedict, second generation, handled all the funeral arrangements for the assassinated president, James Garfield. Charles A. also provided services for Ulysses S. Grant when he was interred in New York City in 1885, in the now famous Grant's Tomb. At the turn of the century the third generation funeral director, Clarence A. Benedict moved the business north to lower Westchester. After directing services from two locations in the Bronxville area, the fourth generation, Charles A. Benedict relocated the Westchester Funeral Home to its present site at Midland Avenue and Main Street. The fifth generation, C. Alan Benedict and the 6th generation, Carrie A. Benedict Foley are seen in the accompanying photo. Alan, who began working with his dad in 1961, and Carrie, who began with her dad in 1996, continue the family's legacy of caring.

What People Are Saying About Westchester Funeral Home
In July 2021, a "Memory Tree" was ordered in the name of my beloved deceased husband, Richard J. (Dick) Hayduk, Sr, thanks to Westchester Funeral Home's kind and thoughtful gesture. As of this note, the "Memory Tree" has arrived and has been planted at the beautiful home of our son, Rick Hayduk and his family in Greenville, SC. I am told that the family is delighted to have it, with the pole reading "In loving memory of Richard J. Hayduk, Sr". (Papa) on their property. To you, Alan and Maria, I send my best regards and commend you for providing these special lasting gestures to families of their beloved deceased. Most Appreciative,
Josephine C. Hayduk

ButtonDear Alan & Carrie, From the beginning of this sad journey Joan and I were glad it was you. Thank you for your compassion, guidance, and friendship as we mourn our mother's death. You made things seem "normal" and helped us to cope despite our grief. We are so grateful for your support.

ButtonAnthony & Westchester Funeral Home team, The family of Mr. Richard Osband (Armonk) thanks you for assisting with his cremation, consistent with his modest wishes. Since all of closest relatives are distant (MI, CA), your practical, professional handling of documentation was greatly appreciated. Westchester Funeral Home was sensitive and responsive every step of the way, from admins to funeral director to owners, quickly answering calls and messages even on weekends. We could not be more pleased with the service our family received.
ButtonDear Alan, On behalf of my siblings I’d like to convey our gratitude to you and to your staff. From the beginnings of our pre-arrangements all the way up to the interment, I don’t think we could have imagined better care from a funeral home. At every stage you were sensitive to our needs and preferences, which in several cases entailed accommodating some arrangements that were not typical for you. Everything was handled professionally and compassionately. I will add that we were stunned by how good our mother looked, thanks to the work of your staff. And that is so important. Please know our appreciation, and I I’m quite sure we will be seeking your services again in the future. With every best wish,
Peter B and Alex B.
ButtonOnce again I would like to say how great Aunt Bea looked. Her hair and make-up were phenomenal. You sent her out in style and I can’t thank you enough. A Job Well Done,

Phil White loved the Village of Tuckahoe very much. He spent most of his years in service to the community as both a volunteer, along with thirty years as an elected public servant. Up until two days before he died he was still acting on his dedication and commitment; mentoring others and making suggestions for a post on Tackahoe History’s social-media page...

ButtonI am writing this note to thank you so much for the tree that was planted in memory of my husband, Francis Campolong. This extremely kind service that you provide is such a wonderful remembrance for his family. Having a memory tree in honor of a loved one is an endearing gift that lives on. It brings us joy to know that his tree was planted as he loved nature and all the happiness that it brings.

ButtonDear Carrie, Alan, and Marie, On behalf of our families and dear friends, I want to thank you for your efforts in making the "Celebration of Life" for Dan on Saturday, April 23rd a memorable day. Your facility is most comforting and welcoming, and the staff was gracious, helpful and accommodating to me in planning our day. The memorial presentation folders were beautifully done. I know Dan would have been so pleased with your deep friendship and very kind generosity as I am. Again, thank you for your friendship and making a sad occasion that will be remembered as a loving and gentle "goodbye" to Dan.

Hi Carrie, Anthony and staff…
I cannot express how grateful I am for the professional and genuinely kind service rendered to my family for my Mom’s (Maria DeStefano) recent funeral arrangements. We did not have to concern ourselves with anything – it was all taken care of. I will continue to recommend Westchester Funeral Home to anyone I encounter that is in need of arrangements, including pre-arranging.
Wishing you all the best,
Christine
